Zine Zine

For this project, I was tasked with creating a zine about a historically significant zine. I chose Science Fiction Digest, a pioneering sci-fi zine, with a special focus on its most ambitious project — Cosmos, a serialized novel written collaboratively by 17 different science fiction authors. This groundbreaking work showcased the power of zines as a platform for creative collaboration, a theme I decided to explore firsthand in my own project.

To bring this idea to life, I conducted an in class activity where each student illustrated the cover for one of the 17 chapters in Cosmos. To honor the original zine format, I printed each chapter separately on newsprint, staying true to the way Science Fiction Digest was originally distributed. Finally, I designed an exterior package that unfolds to reveal the novel along with additional context about its history and my creative process.
